Mark Smith is Senior Counsel of Liberty Partners Group, LLC, where he works with the Firm's clients to develop and implement strategies to successfully achieve their legislative and regulatory policy goals. Mr. Smith’s practice focuses primarily on healthcare policy issues before the Legislative and Executive Branches of the federal government. He is recognized for his skill in developing bipartisan solutions to complex policy issues.
Mark has more than 25 years of experience in a wide array of health policy issues.
He has provided legislative and regulatory guidance to physician organizations, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, patient advocacy coalitions, medical research centers, community health centers, hospitals and hospital systems. His counsel to clients has included matters involving Medicare/Medicaid coverage and reimbursement, advocacy for increased public health appropriations, regulatory issues and the development of comprehensive federal policy initiatives. He has particular expertise in the field of oncology, including cancer research, education, prevention, detection and treatment.
Before returning to the private practice in 2001, Mark served for 12 years as a member of the staff of United States Senator Connie Mack (R-FL) as Senior Policy Advisor. He was involved in bipartisan efforts to improve healthcare quality and access, including initiatives to strengthen and modernize programs within the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Health Care Financing Administration (now CMS) and other federal agencies. He also was active in efforts to increase federal funding for a variety of U.S. Public Health Service programs. Mark continues to work closely with Senator Mack, Senior Policy Advisor to Liberty Partners Group.
Mark has delivered numerous presentations at national medical, scientific and health policy conferences. Before joining the staff of Senator Mack, he was Director of Public Relations of Wolfberg/Alvarez & Partners, an architectural, engineering firm in Florida. He also managed his own political consulting firm in Miami. He also is a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.
